The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a plea filed by suspended Gujarat cadre IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt, seeking a court-monitored SIT probe in relation to the two FIRs lodged against him for allegedly forcing his subordinate to file an affidavit in a 2002 riots case, and hacking into an e-mail account of the then Additional Advocate General of Gujarat, Tushar Mehta, and tampered with it.
The former IPS officer had asked the Supreme Court to consider a series of e-mails submitted by him in court, claiming that they allegedly reveal the “collusion” between the prosecution and defence in several cases, from the 2002 Gujarat riots to the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter, involving high public functionaries like the then State Home Minister and Amit Shah.
An apex court Bench of Chief Justice H.L. Dattu and Justice Arun Mishra, while rejecting Mr. Bhatt’s plea, asked a trial court to complete the hearing. The bench also said the trial in these two cases be conducted “expeditiously".
