Ace the nude lips look

The Academy Awards saw almost every celebrity sporting nude lips. This go-to shade, which epitomises eternal chic, can be tricky to master. Especially because there is a very thin line between nude lips that look dull and those that look pretty and youthful. Here are tips to help you rock the nudes.

Prep your lips by exfoliating

Nude shades give away flaky, dry skin and fine lines, much more than colored lipsticks. So, begin by exfoliating them with a lip scrub in light circular movements for a smooth finish. Next, apply a clear moisturizing but non-greasy lip balm to help your lipstick adhere to your lips better.

Apply a base

Use a concealer or light foundation on your lips and the areas around and blend it outwards. You must apply one that is the exact shade as your skin tone. This will give your lips an even base and also ensure that the actual colour of your lipstick is not hampered or marred by the natural colour of your lips.

Line you lips

Apply a creamy lip liner first, then fill in your lips with the same. Your liner should never be darker than your lipstick

Choose the right colour

This is the most crucial step. It is easy to go wrong and end up picking a shade that makes you look washed out, sick, sleep-deprived and tired. Ideally, your nude lips should be either one shade lighter or darker than your skin tone. The meant-to-be-noticed shades are opaque beiges and the subtle ones are sheer nudes with pink hints. If you have a fair complexion, choose shades that have pinks as the base; if you have a Wheaties skin tone, choose warmer shades like peach or pink with a tinge of brown. If you have a darker skin tone, opt for dark chocolate or berry nudes.

Finish with a gloss

It is essential that you use a nude or slightly pink gloss. Remember, matte and nude lips just do not go well together.
